The Science of Scooter Wheels
Root Industries has spent nearly 20 years perfecting the scooter wheel, and that's why our wheels are faster, smoother and more grippy than any other scooter wheel. The difference is noticeable, and that's a result of our meticulous attention to detail in every aspect of the design, the testing, the choice of materials, the precision manufacturing on our very own custom-made machines....every step of the process is driven by one purpose: To continue to make the best scooter wheels.
Unique Polyurethane (PU) Formulas
We have our own unique formulas of PU, which no other scooter wheel can match. We have spent two decades perfecting scooter wheels, and now we have a wheel to suit every rider. The PureGrip PU is found exclusively on our Liberty wheels and provides the ultimate grip for riders who like control in their ride, with cushioned landings. Our UHR Speed formula is found in our Honeycore and Air wheels and is the choice of riders who demand the fastest, purest ride from their set-up. The UHR Grip formula is new to our Lotus wheel range, and has been developed to deliver the ultimate balance between speed and grip for all-round performance.
Cutting-edge Core Design
Our cores are meticulously designed to bond uniquely with each different PU formula, reducing dehubbing and chunking in our wheels.
We use the highest quality aluminium and cutting-edge manufacturing techniques to reduce weight, and allow for precision-fitting of the bearings which increases speed and smoothness of the riding experience.
The Smoothest Bearings
Our ABEC 11 bearings deliver famously unrivalled smoothness and speed.
Improved Performance
Our wheels noticeably improve performance of a scooter, delivering better balance, superior grip and increased speed. This extra speed increases air-time so more tricks can be performed, and the extra grip makes controlling the landing easier, providing riders with the edge when it matters.
Frequently Asked Wheel Questions
What are the right wheels for me to ride?
The right wheels often depends on two key factors. The first factor to consider is your riding style. If you are the type of rider who likes their wheels to have a softer, more grippy feel to them, then you should look at either the Lotus or the Liberty wheels. If your riding style is more about speed and punching out quick transitions, then the Honeycore and Air wheels will suit you better.
The second consideration is what surface do you most regularly ride on. If you usually ride on smoother/slippier surfaces like indoor timber parks, or really smooth concrete parks, then you will get better control and less slips from the Liberty wheels or the Lotus wheels.
If you ride mostly on good quality, slightly rougher outdoor parks or surfaces that have more imperfections, then the Honeycore or Air wheels will help keep your speed high and will help smooth out the slight inconsistencies in the ground.
Should I ride 110mm or 120mm wheels?
Most scooters will be compatible with either 110mm or 120mm wheels, so the choice is really a personal thing when it comes to wheel size, rather than a compatibility issue.
In theory, 110mm wheels will give you a bit more agility and quicker acceleration, whilst 120mm wheels give you a bit more clearance below the deck when dropping into the bowl, and a higher top speed (but slower acceleration).
In practice, most riders just have a personal preference for either 110mm and 120mm, so it really is a personal choice.
How should I look after my wheels to keep them good for longer?
The wheels themselves required virtually no maintenance, although you can slightly prolong the lifespan of a wheel by rotating it round every few weeks (move the front wheel to the back and the back wheel to the front). This is because usually the rear wheel will wear down quicker due to the brake.
You can definitely prolong the life and improve the performance of your bearings by giving them a regular clean and regreasing them.
Never use lubcricants or WD40 on your bearings. This will make them seize up within days. Instead, get a clean cloth and remove any dirt from around the bearing case. Then, put a tiny drop of bearing oil around the bearing dustcap, and then spin the wheel several times. The chain oil will seep into the bearing chamber, and this will help keep your wheels rolling perfectly for longer.
